Kitikun Mankit Thai, b. 1985

Kitikun Mankit graduated Master’s degree in Fine Arts from King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang. He launched his 1st art exhibition in an exhibition called “One Upon a Time”, 2014 and then continue displaying his works both in Thailand and overseas until now.

The artist imagined the artworks which convey the feeling of being observed to the audiences, to make them question those uncomfortable feelings of being observed by his painting. He collects the elements of the society; attitudes, politics, power, class, status and even believes to starts his works and then criticizes them in the most simple way which is using emotions regarded to those stories in his narratives to trigger different feelings; uncomfortable, curiosity, sadness, anger, paranoia, disgust, ridicule or even funny, to give an instance.  He managed to use those emotions and displayed them in his works through the pictures of portraits blended with distorted images, combined many symbols into his works under the definition of “Symbolic language”

Inspired by his interests in historical artworks, both in the form of artistic value and historical value, his interests in Christian art in which symbols were used by the artists from that era to represent concepts.

He has chosen 3 pieces from his series called “The ProPhet” including “The Tower”, “The Hanged Man” and “Judgement” 

This series’ original concepts came from the Tarot card. He draws out the symbols that appeared on each card and transformed them into alternative symbols to make his works related to the current socio-political condition. To criticize and express his perspective toward power and authority in society.

 กิติคุณ หมั่นกิจ จบการศึกษาระดับชั้นปริญญาโท สาขาทัศนศิลป์ จากสถาบันเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าคุณทหารลาดกระบัง 

ได้เริ่มจัดแสดงผลงานศิลปะเป็นครั้งแรกในนิทรรศการที่มีชื่อว่า One Upon a Time เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2557  หลังจากนั้นผมได้มีการแสดงผลงานอย่างต่อเนื่อง ทั้งในและต่างประเทศ จนถึงปัจจุบัน

ศิลปินสร้างผลงานที่ทำให้ผู้ชมรู้สึกถึงการถูกจับจ้อง จนเกิดคำถามขึ้นจากความอึดอัดของการถูกจ้องมองโดยภาพเขียนของเขา โดยศิลปินได้นำเอาองค์ประกอบของสังคมทั้ง ทัศนคติ การเมือง อำนาจ ชนชั้น ฐานะ หรือแม้กระทั้งความเชื่อมาเป็นเรี่ยวแรงในจุดเริ่มต้น และวิพากษ์กลับด้วยวิธีการที่เรียบง่ายที่สุด คือการนำเอาความรู้สึกต่างๆ ต่อเรื่องราวมาถ่ายทอด ทำให้เกิดอารมณ์ที่แตกต่างกันไป ทั้งความอึดอัด ความฉงน ความเศร้า ความโกรธ ความหวาดระแวง รังเกียจเดียดฉันท์ เยาะเย้ยถากถาง หรือแม้
กระทั้งตลกขบขัน เป็นต้น ศิลปินได้นำเอาความรู้สึกเหล่านั้นมาส่งต่อผ่านรูปลักษณ์ที่บิดเบี้ยว ผสมผสานระหว่างภาพเขียนบุคคลที่ผนวกเอาสัญญะของสิ่งต่างๆ ลงไปในภาพ ภายใต้นิยาม “ประโยคสัญลักษณ์” ด้วยแรงบันดาลใจจากความชอบในผลงานศิลปะยุคโบราณ ทั้งทางด้านคุณค่าทางศิลปะและประวัติศาสตร์ ความสนใจในเชิงคริสตศิลป์ที่ศิลปินในยุคนั้นนิยมที่จะใช้ภาษาของเครื่องหมาย ตลอดจนสัญลักษณ์ต่างๆ ในการถ่ายทอดความคิด

ศิลปินเลือกผลงาน 3 ชิ้น จากชุด The ProPhet Series อันได้แก่ ผลงานที่มีชื่อว่า The Tower, The Hanged Man, และ Judgement อันเป็นงานชุดที่มีต้นแบบความคิดมาจาก ไพ่ทาโรห์ ศิลปินนำเอาสัญญะที่ปรากฏบนไพ่แต่ละใบ และเปลี่ยนแปลงสัญลักษณ์ทั้งหมดในภาพให้มีความรู้สึกถึงเรื่องราวหรือสภาวะทางสังคมการเมืองรอบตัวในปัจจุบัน เพื่อวิพากษ์และแสดงทัศนะต่อคำว่าอำนาจและผู้มีอำนาจในสังคม
