Kwanchai Lichaikul Thai, b. 1983

was born in 1983 in the Uttaradit province of Thailand, though he currently resides and works in Bangkok. His artistic studies began at the Suphan Buri College of Fine Arts, where he completed his under-graduate degree. He would go on to further complete another Under-Graduate as well as a Graduate program in Thai Arts from the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture, and Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University.

From his interests in the wall murals found in various temples, which had their own unique narrative mechanism, Kwanchai was inspired to develop his expertise in creating works that tell a story from the bird’s-eye view perspective. Using simple black-and-white lines, this method allows for Kwanchai’s works to conceal a wealth of intricate satirical details, which the artist humorously hides throughout his work.

Kwanchai’s art tends to revolve around the ways of life within contemporary society, presenting works that touch upon subjects such as politics, social issues, and religion, all the while questioning and seeking the true meaning of life in the current day through perspectives and personal opinions. Kwanchai’s works have been featured in many notable art exhibitions, such as Bangkok Art Festival 226 (at the Bangkok Arts and Cultural Center, 2008), “Unseen Siam” exhibition (Bangkok Arts and Cultural Center, 2016), Thailand- Biennale, Korat 2021 (King Bhumibol Memorial Library, Nakhon Ratchasima, 2021), along with a regular slate of his own solo-exhibitions.
