Thailand Biennale, Korat 2021

Kanchalee Ngamdamronk, an artist from SAC Gallery, is participating in the 2021 Thailand Biennale Korat in the name of Slowstitch Studio. The artist collaborated with Ban Du Silk Handicraft Group from Pak Thongchai District created “Shuttle Stories,“ which is on display at Rajamangala University of Technology Isan.

Since it was difficult to get to the area to work in close contact with the people because of the Covid situation. The artist devised a manner of working in which the process of talking, exchanging ideas, and learning from each other’s work became central to their creative process.

It’s been great to see the collaborations between artists and members of the community. It turned out to be a wonderful piece of work when it came off the loom.

The six silks are a dialogue message and a synthesis of two perspectives from Slowstitch Studio and the Bandu Group. The awards come from the contemporary textiles corner and the foundations of tradition. To demonstrate the worth of community handcrafted textiles.

The Textile Industry Development Institute is working on a project called Mud Tor Jai for the year 2020. Dr.Supavinee Jarungkiatkul devised a leaf pattern that employs natural colors and unique approaches to bring dyed cloth back to the weaving group.

The 2021 Thailand Biennale Korat runs until March 31, 2022, with artworks shown throughout Korat. Information can be found at thailandbiennale.org

กรรณชลี งามดำรงค์ ศิลปินจาก เอส เอ ซี แกลเลอรี ได้เข้าร่วมเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของงานมหกรรมศิลปะนานาชาติระดับโลก ครั้งที่ 2 หรือ “Thailand Biennale, Korat 2021“ ภายในชื่อ Slowstitch Studio โดยได้ร่วมทำงานกับกลุ่มหัตถกรรมผ้าไหมบ้านดู่ อ.ปักธงชัย  จ.นครราชสีมา สร้างสรรค์ผลงานในชื่อ "Shuttle Stories" ซึ่งจัดแสดงอยู่ที่มหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีราชมงคลอีสาน จ.นครราชสีมา

ด้วยสถานการณ์โควิดทำให้ลงพื้นที่ไปทำงานใกล้ชิดกับชุมชนได้ยาก ศิลปินจึงได้คิดวิธีทำงานโดยให้กลุ่มบ้านดู่ใช้เทคนิคมัดหมี่มัดเส้นไหมตามลายที่ทางนั้นถนัด ภายใต้โครงการมัดทอใจ ประจำปี พ.ศ. 2563 สถาบันพัฒนาอุตสาหกรรมสิ่งทอ ​โดยหนึ่งในลายที่ทำมีลายใบไม้ที่ออกแบบโดย ดร.สุภาวินี จรุงเกียรติกุล ให้กับกลุ่มบ้านดู่ภายใต้โครงการมัดทอใจ ประจำปี พ.ศ. 2563 ซึ่งใช้สีธรรมชาติและเทคนิคเฉพาะตัว และนำผ้าที่ย้อมแล้วส่วงกลับไปให้กลุ่มทอเป็นผืนผ้าออกมา 

หัวใจของการทำงานนี้อยู่ที่กระบวนในการสื่อสารแลกเปลี่ยนวิธีคิดและเรียนรู้ในการทำงานของกันและกัน ระหว่างศิลปินและชุมชน กลายเป็นความน่าตื่นเต้นที่ได้เห็นการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานระหว่างชุมชนและศิลปิน กลายเป็นผลงานอันน่าตื่นตาที่ออกมาจากกี่ทอผ้า 

ผ้าไหม 6 ผืน จึงเปรียบเสมือนข้อความของบทสนทนาและการร่วมกันของสองมุมมองจาก Slowstitch Studio และกลุ่มบ้านดู่ ที่มาจากมุมของสิ่งทอร่วมสมัยและอีกส่วนมองจากรากฐานของประเพณี เพื่อแสดงให้เห็นถึงคุณค่าของสิ่งทอมือชุมชน 

Thailand Biennale, Korat 2021 จัดแสดงถึงวันที่ 31 มีนาคม พ.ศ. 2565 โดยมีงานศิลปะจัดอยู่ตามพื้นที่ต่างๆใน จ.นครราชสีมา  สามารถดูรายละเอียดได้ทาง thailandbiennale.org
