Kade Javanalikhikara

Kade Javanalikhikara was born in 1961, Bangkok lives and works in Chiangmai. After graduating BFA Painting and Drawing from University of North Texas, Denton, Texas, USA in 1985, Javanalikhikara has come to Chiangmai and settled there. Since then he has been a Chiangmai-based artist. He was teaching at Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiangmai University until 2021, retired as an associate professor. Apart from his renown abstract painting, Javanalikhikara’s practice also includes installation and print.

 

Javanalikhikara expresses transient realities through abstract paintings. He creates art much like how he lives his life: liberated and contemplative. He does not make work to tell a story or send a message, but rather produces paintings in reaction to mental images from deep within his own psyche and surroundings. The freedom of expression on his canvases translates into freedom of interpretation for the viewers. With minimal title descriptions, his paintings are highly emotive and stimulate vivid imaginations. With a home and studio located in an open valley outside of Chiang Mai city, Kade is able to immediately project his reaction of nature into art work. Each painting is an honest confession to the surrounding environment: fear, loneliness, respect and peace.

เกศ ชวนะลิขิกร เกิดเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2504 เป็นศิลปินที่ทำงานและพำนักอยู่ที่จังหวัดเชียงใหม่ เขาสำเร็จการศึกษาระดับปริญญาตรีสาขาจิตรกรรมและดรออิ้ง (Painting and Drawing) จากมหาวิทยาลัย University of North Texas ณ เมือง Denton รัฐเท็กซัส สหรัฐอเมริกา ก่อนที่จะย้ายมาอาศัยอยู่ที่เชียงใหม่จนถึงปัจจุบัน โดยเขารับตำแหน่งผู้ช่วยศาสตราจารย์ ที่คณะวิจิตรศิลป์ มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ จนกระทั่งเกษียณอายุเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2564 ที่ผ่านมา ซึ่งนอกจากผลงานจิตรกรรมนามธรรมอันโด่งดัง เกศยังมีผลงานในรูปแบบของศิลปะจัดวางและภาพพิมพ์อีกด้วย

 

ผลงานของเกศมุ่งแสดงออกถึงความเป็นจริงอันเป็นอนิจจังผ่านภาพจิตรกรรมนามธรรม เขาผลิตผลงานศิลปะอย่างเสรีและไตร่ตรองมาแล้ว เช่นเดียวกับการใช้ชีวิตประจำวันของตัวเอง ผลงานของเกศไม่ได้พยายามจะเล่าเรื่องราวหรือส่งสาส์นใดใด ไปสู่ผู้ชม หากแต่เป็นการสร้างงานจิตรกรรมเพื่อตอบสนองต่อภาพในจินตนาการที่ฝังลึกอยู่ในจิตใจและสิ่งรอบข้าง ความเป็นอิสระในการแสดงออกบนผืนผ้าใบถูกแปรเปลี่ยนเป็นอิสระในการตีความสำหรับผู้ชม แม้มีชื่อผลงานแต่ก็เป็นเพียงการอธิบายอย่างเบาบาง จิตรกรรมนามธรรมของเกศกลับเปี่ยมไปด้วยอารมณ์ และกระตุ้นจินตนาการอย่างแจ่มแจ้ง ด้วยบ้านและสตูดิโอที่ตั้งอยู่ในหุบเขาเปิดโล่งนอกเมืองเชียงใหม่ ส่งผลให้เกศสามารถสะท้อนปฏิกิริยาของเขาต่อธรรมชาติออกมาในผลงานได้ทันที ซึ่งแต่ละชิ้นเปรียบเสมือนคำสารภาพต่อสภาพแวดล้อม ทั้งความกลัว ความเหงา ความเคารพ และความสงบ
