Taiki Sakpisit

Taiki Sakpisit is a visual artist and filmmaker who lives and works in Bangkok, Thailand where he has been making experimental shorts and moving-image works since 2008.

His works often structure through the kinetic energy of the striking aural and visual juxtapositions that accelerate the sense of conflicts, suspended forces, and impending changes of contemporary Thailand as well as touching upon the personal memories, trauma and collective experiences.

His works explore the underlying tensions and conflicts, and the sense of anticipation in contemporary Thailand, through precise and sensorially overwhelming audio-visual assemblage using a wide range of sounds and images. His films produce heightened and uneasy modes of spectatorship that often relate to the tumultuous socio-political climate in Thailand. His feature length film The Edge of Daybreak is premiered at the 50th International Film Festival in the Tiger Awards Competition and won FIPRESCI award for its “Mysterious atmosphere and rich imagery in depicting trauma and violence, for its capacity of dealing with 40 years of political turmoil through a powerful and hypnotic cinematic journey, and for its compromise with the past in order to confront the present and the next future.”

Trouble in Paradise contemplates the oneiric landscape evolving around the trance-like tableaux vivant and hypnagogic vision that echoes perceptible images of Thailand from the late 2016 to the present. The work is structured around a five-part narration, “Summer,” “A Ball,” “Paradise,” “Earth” and “Earth Again,” that simulates the narrator’s memory feedback, déjà vu and hallucinatory state of mind on the journey to the afterlife.

ไทกิ ศักดิ์พิสิษฐ์ เป็นผู้กำกับภาพยนตร์ และศิลปินภาพเคลื่อนไหว ที่ผลงานส่วนใหญ่มุ่งสำรวจประเด็นความขัดแย้งของสังคมการเมืองไทยร่วมสมัย โดยเล่นกับโสตสัมผัสของผู้ชม ผ่านองค์ประกอบของงานด้านภาพและเสียงที่เข้มข้น แม่นยำ และหลากหลาย ผลงานหลายเรื่องของไทกิ ทั้งภาพยนตร์สั้นและวิดีโออาร์ตแนวทดลอง ได้รับการคัดเลือกให้เข้าฉายที่เทศกาลภาพยนตร์นานาชาติ รวมทั้งจัดแสดงในพิพิธภัณฑ์ศิลปะมาแล้วหลายแห่งทั่วโลก 

ภาพยนตร์ขนาดยาวของไทกิเรื่องพญาโศกพิโยคค่ำ (The Edge of Daybreak) ได้รับรางวัล FIPRESCI จากสมาพันธ์นักวิจารณ์นานาชาติที่เทศกาลภาพยนตร์นานาชาติรอตเตอร์ดาม โดยกรรมการกล่าวว่า “พญาโศกพิโยคค่ำ มีบรรยากาศลึกลับ พร้อมด้วยงานด้านภาพอันวิจิตรที่แสดงถึงความเจ็บปวดและความรุนแรง รวมไปถึงสามารถถ่ายทอดความวุ่นวายทางการเมืองตลอดระยะเวลากว่า 40 ปี ด้วยศิลปะภาพยนตร์อันทรงพลังและเปี่ยมด้วยมนต์สะกด นอกจากนี้ พญาโศกพิโยคค่ำ ยังแสดงให้เห็นถึงการประนีประนอมกับอดีต เพื่อพร้อมเผชิญหน้ากับปัจจุบัน อนาคต”

อนาลัยนคร นำเราไปพิจารณาเขตแดนแห่งมายาภาพที่วิวัฒนาการขึ้นรอบๆ ทัศนียภาพคล้ายภาวะกึ่งหลับกึ่งตื่นและตัวละครที่ดูนิ่งเฉยราวกับเป็นเพียงหุ่นประกอบฉาก กอปรกันให้เราสัมผัสถึงทิวทัศน์ของประเทศไทยช่วงหลังปี พ.ศ. 2559 จนถึงปัจจุบัน ผลงานชิ้นนี้ประกอบไปด้วย 5 องค์ ได้แก่ ๑ ก่อนเที่ยงคืน ๒ มหรสพ ๓ ท้องฟ้าสายัณห์ ๔ อนาลัย ๕ อนาลัยนคร จำลองเรื่องราวประสบการณ์ของศิลปิน การระลึกชาติ เดจาวู และสภาวะประสาทหลอนขณะเดินทางไปสู่โลกหลังความตาย
