Naraphat Sakarthornsap Thai

Naraphat Sakarthornsap lives and works in Bangkok. A graduate of Fine and Applied Arts from Chulalongkorn University, Naraphat presents stories of inequality in society and gender discrimination through photography and installation art, in which flowers play the leading roles. Many kinds of flowers that Naraphat uses usually come with profound meanings. And these meanings have formed an identity around him as well. Those flowers have become the keys to finding the neatly hidden answers in the works of art. And sometimes, the photographs of these delicate flowers of Naraphat may come from the deepest part of his devastated heart.

Naraphat’s early works presented the challenge against nature in trying to prolong the freshness of the flower. Later, he developed ideas to challenge power and influence in society through the pictures of these flowers. The theme always stays true to the meaning ‘do not believe in what the flowers in front of you appear to be.’ But instead, look for the messages these flowers are hiding. Perhaps, what Naraphat is facing and trying to present is the same as the ones many others are inevitably struggling with, over the standards in the society, where inequalities are all around them.

นรภัทร ศักดิ์อาธรทรัพย์ อาศัยและทำงานอยู่ในจังหวัดกรุงเทพฯ ประเทศไทย เขาใช้ศิลปะการจัดวางและภาพถ่ายในการนำเสนอประเด็นการถูกกีดกันจากเพศสภาพและความไม่เท่าเทียมกันในสังคมผ่านประสบการณ์ที่เขาได้รับมาในวัยเด็ก เพื่อรักษาบาดแผลและร่องรอยที่บอบช้ำในอดีตที่ยังคงอยู่มาจนถึงในปัจจุบัน ศิลปินพิถีพิถันในการเลือกดอกไม้แต่ละชนิดมาใช้ สร้างสายสัมพันธ์ที่แข็งแรงระหว่างเรื่องเล่าในงานแต่ละชุดเข้ากับความทรงจำส่วนบุคคล ผลงานในช่วงต้นของเขาบอกเล่าถึงการดัดแปลงพันธุกรรมเพื่อยืดอายุและความสดสวยของดอกไม้ และแตกประเด็นไปสู่โครงสร้างและอำนาจในสังคมที่กดทับเราเอาไว้ ทำให้เข้าถึงผู้คนในสังคมวงกว้างด้วยประเด็นต่างๆ ที่เราแต่ละคนยังคงเผชิญอยู่ในชีวิตประจำวัน 

นรภัทร ได้รับคัดเลือกเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของโครงการศิลปินในพำนักของ French Institute ที่ Cité international des arts ณ กรุงปารีส ประเทศฝรั่งเศส ระหว่างเดือนเมษายน พ.ศ. 2565 - เดือนเมษายน พ.ศ. 2566 โดยโครงการวิจัยและสร้างสรรค์ในครั้งนี้ ได้รับการสนับสนุนจากสถาบันเครือข่ายวัฒนธรรมฝรั่งเศสในต่างประเทศ (The French Institute) มอบโอกาสแก่ผู้ที่ได้รับคัดเลือกได้เข้าร่วมกิจกรรมต่างๆ อาทิ การประชุมเชิงปฏิบัติการ, สถานที่พักใน Marais และพื้นที่ใกล้เคียงที่เกี่ยวข้องกับเมืองแห่งศิลปะนานาชาติ ซึ่งถือเป็นอีกหนึ่งศิลปินที่น่าสนใจที่มีผลงานประจักษ์ในระดับนานาชาติ
