‘If you love me just let me grow.’

 

เดือนความรักหวนมาอีกครั้ง แน่นอนว่าเทศกาลดอกไม้สื่อความรักก็กลับมาด้วย เพราะดอกไม้มีความหมายที่ลึกซึ้งซ่อนอยู่ภายใต้กลีบดอกที่งดงาม ไม่ว่าจะเป็นดอกกุหลาบขาวที่หมายถึงรักบริสุทธิ์ ดอกยิปโซหมายถึงรักแรกที่งดงาม และดอกฟอร์เก็ตมีนอต หมายถึงความรักที่ยืนยาวตราตรึงในความทรงจำ

 

นอกจากช่อดอกไม้ที่เป็นความหมายแทนใจแล้ว อีกสิ่งที่เป็นภาพคุ้นตาของเดือนแห่งความรัก หรือผู้เคยใช้บริการร้านขายดอกไม้ นั่นคือตู้แช่ดอกไม้ ตู้ที่คอยมอบความเย็นเพื่อให้ดอกไม้ยังคงความสวยและงดงาม จนกว่าจะส่งถึงมือผู้รับ 

 

ในวาระเข้าสู่เทศกาลแห่งความรักที่อบอวลไปด้วยกลิ่นของดอกไม้ SAC Gallery ชวนทุกคนย้อนดู ‘Flower Refrigerator’ ผลงานภาพถ่ายของ นรภัทร ศักดิ์อาธรทรัพย์ ที่ต้องการเสนอความงามของดอกไม้ที่เป็นไปตามความต้องการของตลาด เมื่อความสวยสดถูกควบคุมด้วยความต้องการของตลาด หากมองอีกมุมนี่คือการพรากอิสระภาพการเติบโตไปจากดอกไม้ เพราะการที่ดอกไม้ถูกตัดและนำมาไว้ในตู้แช่ แม้ว่าจะคงความสวยสดงดงามไว้ได้ แต่ดอกไม้เหล่านี้ไม่อาจเจริญเติบโตในแบบที่ควรจะเป็น ทำได้เพียงรอคอยเวลาให้คนมาซื้อ และร่วงโรยไปตามกาลเวลาเพียงเท่านั้น

 

นภัทรจึงต้องการสะท้อนอัตลักษณ์ที่ถูกทำลายจากสังคม ผ่านภาพถ่ายที่สังคมมองว่าสิ่งนี้ดีและสวยงาม ส่งผลให้ดอกไม้ต้องหยุดการเติบโตเพียงเพื่อความต้องการของตลาด ราวกับมนุษย์ที่ถูกตีกรอบความเป็นอิสระตามขนบและกรอบของสังคม การเติบโตและสวยงามในแบบของตัวเอง กลายเป็นกรอบที่ถูกตีไว้

 

การเลือกจัดดอกไม้มารวมให้สวยงามในตู้แช่ เปรียบเสมือนภาพสมนุษย์ที่ไม่สามารถเลือกเกิดได้ ว่าอยากเกิดเป็นใคร เพศไหน หรือเกิดมาในสังคมแบบใด เมื่อเกิดมาในประเทศที่ไม่สามารถเลือกได้และต้องอยู่ใต้กฎ หรือบรรทัดฐานของสังคมนั้นๆ ก็เปรียบเสมือนดอกไม้ที่ถูกลิดรอนอิสระภาพ และต้องเติบโตในแบบที่ระบบต้องการ

 

คำถามสำคัญคือ พวกเราเป็นดอกไม้ในตู้แช่เย็น หรือเป็นเพียงสินค้าที่สังคมต้องการหรือเปล่า?

A month of love is coming back again! Absolutely, the flower festival is returning too, showcasing flowers with deep meanings hidden under their beautiful petals. For instance, white roses symbolize loyalty, purity, and innocence. Gypsophila flowers symbolize eternal love, while forget-me-nots symbolize true love, devotion, and loyalty.

 

Aside from bouquets symbolizing love, another familiar sight during the month of love is the 'Flower Refrigerator'. This cabinet provides coolness for the flowers, ensuring they remain beautiful until they are delivered to the recipient.

 

During this month of love, SAC Gallery invites everyone to reflect on the 'Flower Refrigerator', an series by Naraphat Sakarthornsap, who aims to represent the pageantry of this beauty that allows no errors. Once these prime flowers leave the farm, they are placed in refrigerators, transforming them into perfect products for those who can afford them.

 

From another perspective, many of these flowers are harvested prematurely; some species are cut off before they even have a chance to bloom, with no opportunity for growth, only waiting to be bought or fading with time.

 

Sakarthornsap seeks to reflect on the stark reality of society through flower photography, showcasing perfect products and beauty. However, these represent only superficial control compared to humans, who have their freedom and identity stripped away by society.

 

Picking flowers for arrangement and display in the refrigerator mirrors the experience of a human who cannot choose where they are born, their gender, or the type of society they are raised in. When you are born in a country you didn’t choose, you must adhere to the rules or norms of that society. It’s akin to a flower deprived of its freedom, forced to grow in the manner dictated by the system.

 

So, are we merely flowers in a freezer, a social product?
