In numerous literary compositions, insects like butterflies and cicadas frequently serve as metaphors for transformation and transition. Their metamorphosis or moulting processes encompass not only physical alterations but also embody the beauty and fundamental significance of these transitional phases, as well as the resilience they exhibit within their environments. This concept mirrors Jun’ichirō Tanizaki's In Praise of Shadows, which praises the aesthetic of light and shadow while simultaneously critiquing and reflecting on cultural transformations and the interplay between the past and the present. Tanizaki discusses the significance of darkness, subtlety, and imperfection—factors that create a depth and serenity that brightness alone cannot achieve. The cycles of decay and renewal in nature and human existence are not definitive endpoints or beginnings, but rather significant transitional phases awaiting exploration.

Moulting Ensemble showcases experiences of transition at both personal and spatial dimensions. It involves a reexamination through philosophical and aesthetic literary viewpoints, highlighting the "in-between" or liminal space where nature and humanity encounter transformation. This method promotes observation and contemplation of various transformative elements, ranging from personal vulnerabilities to relationships with the environment.

Jarasporn Chumsri presents a viewpoint on transformation by adapting Aesop’s Fables to modern social contexts, integrating naturalistic life philosophies to illustrate the connections between humanity and nature in learning and moral exchange. The connection between humans and nature is evident in the work of Praiya Ketkool, who examines the coexistence of urban environments and wildflowers—an endeavour aimed not only at aesthetic appeal but also at promoting ecological restoration and sustainable biodiversity. Aor Sutthiprapha's work introspectively analyses individual internal states via the Enneagram, elucidating behaviours, tendencies, and external factors that influence personal choices. This reflection signifies a subtle and significant development from intrinsic vulnerability. Collectively, these three artists emphasise transformations that connect the external realm with the inner self, creating a dialogue that intertwines the relationships among humanity, nature, and personal identity.

The group exhibition, Moulting Ensemble, encourages viewers to examine and contemplate personal and sensory transformations—metaphorically referred to as the “shells” poised to break and be discarded. The decline and transformation that accompany the recognition of concealed potentials for rejuvenation and development occur within a rapidly evolving and dynamic environment.
