Apertruth

As we move firmly into the era being called “Late Capitalism“ we are seeing the battle between the values of truth being heavily contested. Truth wavers back and forth between surface and innermost takes on reality. Experiences ask us to take things at face-value, even using stereotypes to drive our perceptions. But when things get complicated, we tend to focus harder on the judgments that we make.

Modern culture has been on this trajectory since the 1990s when superficiality rose and hypervisibility became the new norm. Society wanted everything on view and exposure became capital.  Our brains grew oversaturated with the bombardment of surface level culture in the form of entertainment, news, and other social distractions. Lately, as the ramifications of this age show themselves more frequently, we’ve been forced to look inside, trying to uncover a deeper reality.

Western culture has been deeply influenced by the social relation between generality and depth since the time of Plato. Now, we live in a unique moment in history, as the world is united by the models that were born of these ideologies, we are seeing the battle of truth and reality manifesting itself in many ways. Regional problems have expanded to have global consequences. The easy access to knowledge has made truth debatable. In the year 2020, society is undergoing a complicated trial with how it sees itself.

Knowledge, facts, and truth are the creations of people and language. They have shown that they can always be repackaged or undone over time. Leaders of societies and the medias that observe them know that the truth is a flexible idea as information is often incomplete or omitted. Further abbreviations of events and generalizations of important details can misdirect the point. The truth is often misunderstood but its inaccuracy is tolerated.

Furthermore, no matter how much the variety of our truth and the available differences in our facts, deep down we should recognize that information does not just happen. Throughout much of history, the range of human knowledge was not directly available. Societies funneled facts to people that carried their own cultural interpretations of how or why the truth was important. In the year 2020, we see that we still continue to shape the truth to suit our own versions of reality, even if subconsciously. We as a society today are undergoing a complicated trial with how we see ourselves and our responsibility to the truth.

The exhibition “Apertruth” will be held on the second floor of Art Centre Bldg., SAC Gallery from 22 August until 25 October 2020. The official opening ceremony will be held on 22 August 2020, 1:00-7:00PM.

ในระยะเวลาที่เรากำลังเข้าสู่ห้วงเวลาแห่งสังคมทุนนิยมตอนปลายและได้เริ่มเห็นถึงความขัดแย้งกันระหว่างความเป็นจริงต่างๆ ซึ่งความเป็นจริงและประสบการณ์ของมนุษย์เหล่านี้เองที่ทำให้เราอาจมองเหตุการณ์ต่างๆ เพียงแค่ผิวเผิน บางครั้งมีการใช้อคติและความหวาดกลัวที่สืบเนื่องมาจากกฎเกณฑ์ที่ตายตัวเป็นแรงผลักดันในมุมมองของตนเอง เมื่อได้เผชิญกับเหตุการณ์อันยากลำบาก มนุษย์มักมุ่งอยู่กับการตัดสินที่โอนเอียง

ตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. 2533 สังคมได้ตกอยู่ในกระแสโคจรที่ฉาบฉวยโดยมีการเข้าถึงข้อมูลขั้นลึกเป็นบรรทัดฐานใหม่ที่อุบัติขึ้น สมองถูกป้อนด้วยข่าวสารและความบันเทิงอันตื้นเขิน เพราะเหตุนี้ผู้คนได้เริ่มเห็นผลกระทบจากกระแสนี้เพิ่มขึ้นทุกวัน ถูกบังคับให้ยิ่งมองลึกลงไปในข้อมูล เพื่อเปิดเผยความเป็นจริงของโลกที่อาศัยอยู่

วัตนธรรมตะวันตกได้รับอิทธิพลจากความสัมพันธ์ทางสังคมในด้านความเป็นจริงทั่วๆ ไปและความลึกซึ้งทางข้อมูลตั้งแต่ยุคของนักปราชญ์เลื่องชื่ออย่างเพลโต ในปัจจุบันเราที่ช่วงเวลาที่แตกต่างไปจากประวัติศาสตร์เดิมๆ อย่างสิ้นเชิง โลกถูกเชื่อมด้วยคตินิยม สงครามของข้อเท็จจริงและความเป็นจริงประจักษ์ออกมาในหลายๆ ด้าน ปัญหาจุลภาคแผ่ขยายเป็นวงกว้าง ความสามารถในการเข้าถึงข้อมูลอย่างง่ายดายทำให้เกิดการถกเถียงเกี่ยวกับข้อเท็จจริง และในปี พ.ศ. 2563 สังคมกำลังเข้าสู่บททดสอบอันซับซ้อนเกี่ยวกับวิธีที่สังคมมองตัวเอง

ความรู้ ข้อเท็จจริง และสัจธรรมเป็นสิ่งประดิษฐ์ของมนุษย์และภาษา สิ่งเหล่านี้สามารถดัดแปลงและผ่อนปรน ผู้นำในสังคมและสื่อที่จับตามองบุคคลเหล่านั้นรู้ว่าในความเป็นจริงแล้ว ข้อเท็จจริงเป็นสิ่งที่ถูกดัดแปลงได้เพราะความรู้ที่ถูกใช้ในสังคมเรามักจะไม่สมบูรณ์หรือขาดหายไป มากไปกว่านั้นการตัดทอนของเหตุการณ์และการพูดคลุมรายละเอียดสำคัญ สามารถชี้นำไปสู่แนวคิดที่บิดเบือน เพราะเหตุนี้เรามักเข้าใจผิดเกี่ยวกับความจริง ถึงแม้เรายอมรับความไม่แม่นยำของข้อมูล

แม้เราอาจคิดว่าความจริงมีรูปแบบที่หลากหลาย โดยเฉพาะความแตกต่างในความจริงที่ข้างในลึกๆ ของเรารู้ว่าข้อมูลไม่ได้เกิดขึ้นเพียงเท่านี้ ในประวัติศาสตร์ ขอบเขตของความรู้มนุษย์ไม่ได้เผยแผ่ให้คนอื่นรับรู้ แต่สังคมได้กลั่นกรองข้อเท็จจริงผ่านมุมมองด้านวัฒนธรรมในแนวคิดของผู้คนที่ให้ความสำคัญของความเท็จจริงในวัฒนธรรมนั้น ในปี พ.ศ. 2563 เราได้เห็นถึงการสร้างความเป็นจริงให้เข้ากับแนวคิดและมุมมองของตัวเราเองแม้ว่าจะอยู่ภายใต้จิตใต้สำนึกของเราก็ตาม แต่สังคมในปัจจุบันกลับอยู่ท่ามกลางการพิพากที่ซับซ้อน เกี่ยวกับวิธีการมองตัวเอง และความรับผิดชอบต่อข้อเท็จจริง

นิทรรศการ “Apertruth” จัดแสดงระหว่างวันที่ 22 สิงหาคม - 25 ตุลาคม พ.ศ. 2563 ณ ชั้น 2 อาคารหอศิลป์ (ตึกใหญ่) เอส เอ ซี แกลเลอรี (SAC Gallery) โดยมีพิธีเปิดนิทรรศการในวันที่ 22 สิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2563 ตั้งแต่เวลา 13:00-19:00 น.
