'Firmament in Flux' illuminates the parallels between ancient philosophies and contemporary thought, particularly the way Qi, the life force permeating all existence, embodies the interwoven nature of the cosmos. This idea resonates with modern scientific perspectives on the flow of energy through the universe's empty spaces, emphasising the continuity between the physical and the spiritual realms. The Firmament, a cosmic web of unseen forces, mirrors Qi as the energy that unites the tangible and intangible. Moreover, the notion of a forgotten space encapsulates the hidden forces that shape our existence—realms we inhabit yet often overlook. The concept of the Firmament invites viewers to explore dimensions beyond the visible, bridging the gap between presence and absence.

Gi-ok Jeon presents 'Firmament in Flux' inviting viewers on a journey through the dynamic interplay between tradition and modernity, East and West. Central to the exhibition are the concepts of Qi and Emptiness, which challenge conventional understanding of existence. Emptiness, far from being mere absence, serves as the receptive and fluid space through which Qi—the life force—flows and expresses itself. In this sense, Emptiness is not void, but a dynamic, living presence that facilitates the movement and transformation of energy, creating a continuous dialogue between the tangible and intangible realms. Through contemporary ink-wash paintings and an installation of telephone wires, Jeon examines how unseen forces and intentional voids shape perception. A key highlight is a telephone wire sculpture of a human figure—a striking metaphor for the unseen connections that bind us in daily life, bridging material and immaterial worlds and reinforcing the exhibition's exploration of energy as a connective force.

The works span diverse media, presenting a distinctive array of artistic expressions that reflect the exhibition's core themes. Calligraphy pieces embody Qi, balancing fluidity and intention in traditional Eastern art, whilst video art integrates dynamic movements and soundscapes to illustrate the harmonious flow of energy in various forms. Together, these elements invite contemplation of the hidden narratives that shape our reality. What unseen forces shape our daily lives and perceptions? How do these invisible connections redefine our understanding of presence and absence?

The exhibition reminds us that what appears empty often holds infinite significance, allowing us to find beauty in the complex layers that compose our reality.
