Herspective

In celebration of International Women’s Day on 8 March, we at SAC Gallery are encouraging, supporting, and very delighted to introduce four female artists who’s career show high potential for growth and development. If tenderness, sensitivity, simplicity, and vulnerability are considered common attributes of women, this exhibition, “Herspective” reflects the converse side womanhood with its display of determination of wisdom.

Within the contemporary art scene of Thailand there are many talented and promising artists. Thidarat Chantachua, Praiya Ketkool, Thanathorn Suppakijjumnong and Aor Sutthiprapha are our representatives among them. Each one of them has their own unique practice for creating but share through lines of continuity in their innovation and personal narratives.

Chantachua is a specialist in using thread to create her unusual artworks drawing on harmonious dynamics between Thai culture and her Islamic faith. The continuously and precisely arranged thread woven into the surface of the work convey an unseen-able connection between all Muslims. In the artist’s imagination distances are an illusion and religious identity knows no international boundaries.

Ketkool uses the technic of re-arranging the small line of grasses and leaves. An immense effort with tiny objects utilizing a sharp paintbrush to create compositions speaking to universality of nature.

Suppakijjumnong uses a rare antique typewriter to create her contemporary artworks and illustrate her family dynamics. This latest piece from Suppakijjumnong has taken a different direction, through the exploration of contemporary political issues in Thailand. The series ‘Together’ uses the same typewriter technique on high quality Awagami paper from Japan and shows the viewer the now every-present image of a medical face mask, coupled with strong and determined eyes of the figures.

Sutthiprapha journey inward as a person to develop herself allows her art practice to develop in parallel. Her latest work when viewed from one perspective is an elegantly simple cylinder, however when the viewer changes their angle it can be seen as folded paper. Using Thai clay these sophisticated and yet strong works reflect her character, personhood, and ambitions.

If ‘perspective’ means ‘perceptions’ to the other things in truly deep natural understanding, this “Herspective” exhibition tells a different ‘spective’ through the talent and uniqueness of four ‘hers’.

The exhibition “Herspective” will be held on the third floor of Art Connection (BTS Ploenchit Exit 1), Rosewood Bangkok Hotel, Ploenchit road, Bangkok from 1 March until 31 May 2021.

หากภาพจำของผู้หญิงในทัศนะของใครหลายคน คือความอ่อนโยน อ่อนไหว เรียบง่าย และเปราะบาง “Herspective” คือนิทรรศการที่เผยให้เห็นถึงอีกด้านหนึ่งของมุมมอง ที่แฝงไปด้วยความเฉียบแหลมของกระบวนการคิดและแข็งแรงด้วยฝีมือ

วันที่ 8 มีนาคม ของทุกปี ตรงกับวันสตรีสากลแห่งชาติ เอส เอ ซี แกลเลอรี (SAC Gallery) ขอร่วมผลักดันศิลปินหญิงมากความสามารถสู่สายตาของผู้ชม

ในโลกแห่งวงการศิลปะร่วมสมัยในประเทศไทย มีศิลปินมากความสามารถและมากประสบการณ์ สำหรับ ธนธร สรรพกิจจำนง, ธิดารัตน์ จันทเชื้อ, ไปรยา เกตุกูล และ อ้อ สุทธิประภา คือตัวแทนของ 4 ศิลปินหญิงที่แตกต่างในกลวิธีการสร้างสรรค์ แต่เชื่อมโยงกันด้วยเส้นสายและการร้อยเรียง

ธนธร นำเครื่องพิมพ์ดีดที่ยากจะหาได้ในปัจจุบันมาผสานกับงานศิลปะแบบร่วมสมัย การสร้างสรรค์ผลงานศิลปะที่มักจะนำเสนอเรื่องราวของคนในครอบครัว แต่สำหรับผลงานชุดนี้กลับแสดงออกถึงสถานการณ์บ้านเมืองในปัจจุบันอย่างตรงไปตรงมาด้วยคำว่า ‘together’ ที่ถูกย้ำให้หนักแน่นลงบนกระดาษอะวากามิ (Awagami) คุณภาพเยี่ยมจากประเทศญี่ปุ่นที่ทนทานและไม่เปลี่ยนสีเมื่อเวลาผ่านไป จึงอาจเรียกได้ว่าเป็นผลงานศิลปะที่บันทึกหน้าประวัติศาสตร์อย่างแท้จริง

เช่นเดียวกับ ธิดารัตน์ ที่เก่งกาจด้วยการใช้เส้นด้ายถักทอร้อยเรียงผสานกับงานจิตรกรรม เชื่อมโยงวัฒนธรรมศิลปะไทยร่วมสมัยกับศาสนาอิสลามที่เธอรักและศรัทธา ด้ายเส้นบางที่ถูกปักร้อยเรียงกันดั่งสายสัมพันธ์ระหว่างชาวมุสลิม นำเสนออัตลักษณ์ทางศาสนาในรูปแบบสากลของความร่วมสมัย ด้วยระยะที่ทำให้เกิดมุมมองลวงตาเสมือนว่าอยู่ในจินตนาการของศิลปิน

ไปรยา โดดเด่นด้วยการร้อยเรียงเส้นสายของกิ่งไม้และใบหญ้า เป็นความอุตสาหะในการสร้างสรรค์จากผลผลิตเพียงเล็กน้อยที่เกิดจากการจรดโดยปลายพู่กัน หลอมรวมกันให้กลายเป็นระบบจักรวาลของธรรมชาติที่ดำรงอยู่อย่างไม่อาจแยกจากกันได้

การเรียนรู้ตนเองไปพร้อมกับการพัฒนาผลงานอย่างเสมอมาของ อ้อ สมบูรณ์มากขึ้นเมื่อผลงานชุดนี้ดูคล้ายกับทรงกระบอกเรียบง่าย แต่ในขณะเดียวกันก็ดูคล้ายกระดาษแผ่นหนึ่งที่กลับมาหลอมรวมกันภายหลังจากการถูกทำให้แผ่ออก ยิ่งเสริมสร้างทัศนะที่ดูอ่อนช้อยแต่กลับหนักแน่นด้วยการใช้ดินไทยบ่งบอกถึงความดั้งเดิมของแหล่งที่มา

หาก ‘perspective’ หมายถึง ‘มุมมอง’ ต่อสิ่งต่างๆ ที่เป็นจริง หรือการทำให้ทัศนะเหล่านั้นดูเป็นธรรมชาติมากที่สุด นิทรรศการ “Herspective” ก็คงบอกเล่าเรื่องราวทาง ‘spective’ ของพวก ‘เธอ’ 4 คน ผ่านมุมมองของ ‘ธรรมชาติ’ ในฝีมือที่แตกต่างแต่มีเอกลักษณ์เป็นของตัวเอง
