Human Horizon

SAC Residency Program has invited artist Lisa Anderson from Australia, Song Xi from China, Ho Hao from Taiwan and a Thai artist Sittikorn Khawsa-ad. It is such a great opportunity to share the experiences through building up a contemporary art exhibition.

The starting idea in forming the exhibition was from ghost, spirits and believes especially in local Thai area, Chiang Mai city will be the focal point. The four artists did their research on local traditions by traveling around, experiencing and meeting people of the new landscape of Chiang Mai city. The works of the artists addressed their unique viewpoints on our communities which had unfolded the fragility of being human that rely a lot on supernatural.

”Human horizon” derived from observing the methodology of the artists in approaching the subject of ghost, spirits and believes. The works not only stand for aesthetic but also as reflection of ‘being human‘ from the deep in. The works also help explaining the impact of supernatural over human mind even nowadays. Ho Hao addresses his interest in Thai amulet and black magic on his paintings and small sculptures. Lisa Anderson formed up the spirits of landscapes from Thai ghost stories. Song Xi expressed his faith in nature into his installation pieces while Sittikorn Khawsa-ad is admiring the power of human as farmers.

The exhibition “Human horizon” will be held on the third floor of Art Centre Bldg., SAC Gallery from 8 February until 15 March 2020. The official opening ceremony will be held on 15 February 2020, 6:00PM onwards.

สำหรับ SAC Residency Program ในรอบปี พ.ศ. 2562 - 2563 นี้ เราได้รับเชิญศิลปิน Lisa Anderson จากประเทศออสเตรเลีย Song Xi จากประเทศจีน Ho Hao จากประเทศไต้หวัน และสิทธิกร ขาวสะอาด ศิลปินรุ่นใหม่จากประเทศไทย ซึ่งในรอบการพำนักที่ผ่านมานี้เราได้เริ่มต้นคัดเลือกศิลปินไทยให้ร่วมพำนักกับศิลปินนานาชาติเพื่อแลกเปลี่ยนการเรียนรู้ร่วมกัน

แนวคิดของโครงการศิลปินในพำนักครั้งนี้ ได้เริ่มต้นด้วยความสนใจในความเปราะบางของมนุษย์ ความไม่มั่นคงทางความรู้สึกที่มีต่อสิ่งที่อยู่เหนือธรรมชาติ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นความเชื่อต่อสิ่งลี้ลับในท้องถิ่น หรือปรากฏการณ์ที่ยากจะอธิบาย เป็นบรรยากาศพิเศษที่สามารถสังเกตได้จากสายตาของศิลปิน ผลงานจากการค้นคว้าในช่วงเวลาสามเดือนที่ผ่านมา ศิลปินทั้งสี่ได้ใช้เวลาไปกับการเดินทาง ค้นหา ทดลอง ได้พบปะกับผู้คนในวัฒนธรรมใหม่ๆ และสัมผัสกับสิ่งแวดล้อมของเมืองเชียงใหม่โดยตรง

นิทรรศการ “Human horizon“ เป็นนิยามที่เราได้จาการสังเกตการทำงานของศิลปินกลุ่มนี้ ผลงานศิลปะที่นอกจากจะเป็นการนำเสนอสุนทรียภาพแล้ว ในอีกแง่มุมหนึ่งผลงานในนิทรรศการครั้งนี้ก็ดูราวกับวัตถุที่อ่อนไหว และนำเสนอความเป็นมนุษย์ออกมาจากข้างใน ไม่ว่าโลกจะเปลี่ยนไปอย่างไร บางสิ่งบางอย่างยังมีอิทธิพลในการเข้ามาให้ความหมายต่อสิ่งที่อยู่นอกเหนือคำอธิบาย สิ่งเหล่านี้ได้แทรกซึมอยู่ในทุกๆ ขณะของชีวิต ไม่ว่าจะเป็นความสนใจในวัตถุของขลังบนผลงานจิตรกรรมและประติมากรรมของ Ho Hao จินตนาการถึงวิญญาณที่ซ่อนตัวอยู่ในสิ่งแวดล้อมของ Lisa Anderson พลังงานจากธรรมชาติที่แทรกซึมสู่ผัสสะของศิลปิน Song Xi รวมไปถึงจิตวิญญาณของเกษตรกรที่หลบซ่อนอยู่ในหุบเขาของ สิทธิกร ขาวสะอาด

นิทรรศการครั้งนี้จึงพิเศษด้วยการจัดแสดงวัตถุที่ถูกสร้างขึ้นด้วยภาษาทางศิลปะ ในขณะเดียวกันยังเป็นวัตถุที่จำลองการหล่อหลอมพิธีกรรมจนเกิดมิติทางความหมายซ้อนทับกับสิ่งที่เรียกว่าศิลปะร่วมสมัยอย่างแนบเนียน

นิทรรศการ “Human horizon” จัดแสดงระหว่างวันที่ 8 กุมภาพันธ์ - 15 มีนาคม พ.ศ. 2563 ณ ชั้น 3 อาคารหอศิลป์ (ตึกใหญ่) เอส เอ ซี แกลเลอรี (SAC Gallery) โดยมีพิธีเปิดนิทรรศการในวันที่ 15 กุมภาพันธ์ พ.ศ. 2563 ตั้งแต่เวลา 18:00 น. เป็นต้นไป
